Introduction
The South Surrey Food Security Hub is a next-generation processing and distribution facility connecting food producers directly with consumers under a new model that allows far greater efficiency than traditional segmented methods. Operated by Nourish Food Security Cooperative, the facility’s environmentally responsible and resource-efficient construction supports its primary mandates which are:
- to help establish a fair and equitable distribution of food at maximum efficiency
- to provide cost of living relief to British Columbians
- to ensure widespread access to nutritious meals
The 109,000 SF facility in Campbell Heights is to be constructed across two buildings comprising a complete end-to-end meal production facility that includes world-class food preparation areas, a walk-in freezer and cooler, a cafe, retail outlet and integrated frozen meal program. Developed with top experts in the food industry, with intended customers to include schools, hospitals and premium retail, the South Surrey Food Security Hub provides a base from which to implement significant affordability solutions for those seeking cost of living relief.
This multi-stream, meticulously designed production hub is engineered for maximum efficiency and revenue generation, and is capable of producing eighteen to twenty-seven meals per minute—up to 15,000 meals per day.
